My first race of the year was the Tweed Enduro. The swim started in the Tweed River and was in the direction of the current. This resulted in a really quick swim and in 2nd place for my age group. That was temporary as I was in the lead 5 minutes after the start of the bike and held 1st place for the rest of the race. I rode strong and got off the bike feeling good. It was a hot day in Australia around 38 degrees and the sun burning with what very little wind to cool you down. It was tough on the run with the heat but I had a secret weapon. This thought kept me happy during the run leg – my new born son. This was my first race as a father so I kept on thinking about him and his smiles. I held the lead for my age group and finished 22 nd overall with a total time of 4:22:10. First Age group win for me. Happy Times.
